Name:
Carmen de la Pica Morales
Age(D.O.B):
In her 20’s
Orientation(Gay, Straight or Bisexual)
Gay
History:
Carmen's father, a Mayan medicine man, was killed in a motorcycling accident before she was born. She has a Mayan tattoo on her lower back to commemorate him. She first discovered her sexuality when she was 16, when she fell in love with Lucía Torres, a girl at her high school. Lucía eventually cheated on her boyfriend Pablo Fuentes with Carmen. Carmen implies that this was a dangerous move at her high school, as "you didn't fuck with Pablo's girl, but I did." Carmen says that she is a gold star, or a lesbian who has never slept with a man. It is revealed in the season finale of the fourth season that Carmen was involved with the woman now known as Papi in high school.
Carmen is a production assistant at the TV station where Shane works as a hairdresser, though she tells Shane that she DJs as a hobby and dreams of doing it as a full-time job. Shane treats Carmen as a casual hook-up, though Carmen clearly has deeper feelings for Shane and wants to pursue a relationship with her. After several unsuccessful attempts at trying to corner Shane into a relationship, Carmen hooks up with Shane's roommate Jenny Schecter instead. Shane repeatedly says she has no trouble with it, though Jenny quickly figures out that Carmen does not have strong feelings for her, and she thinks that the only reason why Carmen is with her is because Carmen wants to be close to Shane. It soon becomes obvious that Shane has developed very strong feelings for Carmen, but is afraid of getting close to another person. In the second season finale, Lacuna, Shane finally says "I love you" for the first time on the show, to which Carmen does not respond. The previously romantic moment is made decidedly ominous by that lack of response from Carmen and proves to be foreshadowing, of a sort, of Carmen's behavior and unkind treatment of Shane in season three.
In the six months that pass between the second and third season, Carmen moves in with Shane and Jenny. She introduces Shane to her family as a "friend", telling Shane that her family is too traditional to accept their relationship, and would look the other way even when faced with obvious clues. Shane becomes close to Carmen's family, having never had one of her own. When Shane and Carmen get matching tattoos, Carmen's grandmother notices, remarking that they are tattoos of matrimony. After Carmen's mother tries to hook Shane up with a carpet cleaning businessman, Carmen spitefully outs herself to her family out of jealousy, while at the same time revealing the true, romantic nature of her relationship with Shane. Carmen's mother reacts in anger and effectively disowns her.
Carmen's DJing career begins to take off and becomes her full-time job. When Shane's ex, Cherie Jaffe, tries to get back in touch with Shane, Carmen becomes jealous. In a petty and childish attempt at revenge, Carmen flirts with record executives in front of Shane to try to get even. Shane is deeply hurt and confused and reacts by cheating on Carmen with Cherie in the episode 3.05 Lifeline. Carmen finds out, and the relationship between Carmen and Shane becomes even more tumultuous than it already was. Carmen believes Shane is shutting down emotionally in order to punish Carmen for forcing her into a monogamous relationship, while Shane cannot understand Carmen's jealousy and constant spiteful, hurtful treatment of her despite her best efforts to be faithful and supportive. Carmen later admits to Shane that she cheated on her with a woman named Robin out of anger at Shane's infidelity, but it is never made clear if Carmen is telling the truth or if she wanted to see how Shane would react. The two work out their problems and Carmen proposes to Shane, who says no out of fear of hurting Carmen once again. Things become quite shaky and are only hurt more when Shane’s old friend Thorn shows up and the two sleep together one drunken night.
